What should be confirmed first?
Verify that PSE supplies electric service at the address; a city or county name is not sufficient. Identify the existing connection and proposed loads.
- PSE’s single-family handbook asks about building type, equipment, proposed panel size, readiness and overhead or underground service.
- Those are engineering inputs, not an automatic approval.
Can an electrician move or remove the meter?
PSE’s published meter policy prohibits unauthorized disconnecting, reconnecting, moving or pulling a PSE meter. Contact Construction Services when meter or service equipment is affected.
- Remodeling near the meter, adding EV charging and work behind the meter enclosure are examples that can require notification.
Why can site work change the scope?
If a transformer or service stubout is unavailable, engineering and a municipal right-of-way permit may be needed. Approved design, applicable permits and payment, inspection and site readiness are dependencies in PSE’s published construction sequence.
- Ask which are included in the contractor’s work and which require separate utility coordination.
Which rules come from PSE and which from code?
PSE says state or city inspection checks NEC and local requirements, while its metering standards may be more stringent. The handbook’s service and meter classes are utility standards; they do not replace the electrical AHJ’s review.
- Confirm both before equipment is ordered.
What belongs in the readiness conversation?
Ask which design decisions, site preparation, municipal permits and inspections must be complete before PSE will schedule the applicable work. Identify who sends the information and follows up on outstanding requirements.
- If site work or equipment changes after review, ask whether PSE needs revised information.
- The construction sequence is useful for assigning responsibilities, but it is not a universal timeline or a promise that engineering and municipal work can be skipped for a familiar service rating.
Sources and scope
Primary-source research reviewed October 17, 2026 for pse panel, meter and electrical service upgrade planning. Code, utility standards and administrative guidance have different roles. Confirm current requirements for the project address.
